“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. ³⁵For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in…’”

Read verses 14-18. In this parable, what did the master entrust to each of his servants before leaving on a journey? What was his criteria for deciding how much to entrust to each one? What does it mean to “put his money to work?” What was the result of their efforts? 

Read verses 19-25. When the master returned to settle accounts, what did the first two servants report? Why did he call them “good and faithful”? Was the response of the third man correct and true? Why did he really bury his talent in the ground?  

Read verses 26-30. Why did the master not accept the third man’s report and excuses? What was Jesus teaching through this parable? What can we learn here about how to live as we wait for Jesus’ return?

Read verses 31-36. In this parable, how is the coming of the Son of Man described? What two kinds of people are there? What does the King say to the sheep on his right hand? Why are they so blessed? 

Read verses 37-40. What questions did they ask the King? What truth does he reveal to them? What does this teach us about how Jesus sees people? 

Read verses 41-46. What is the sad news the King tells those on his left–the goats? Why didn’t they even know what they had failed to do? What reveals their unchanged hearts–their selfishness? Who are “the least of these?” How must we see them? How can we have eyes to see opportunities for serving Jesus?
