GOD COVERS MAN

Genesis 3:1-24

Key verse 3:15

“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."

How did the serpent deceive the woman? (1-4) Compare the following phrases to God's command in 2:16-17 and describe their accuracy:

Serpent:

"you must not eat from any tree in the garden"

"you will not surely die"

Woman:

"we may eat fruit…"

"you must not eat the fruit that is in the middle of the garden"

"you must not touch it"

"or you will die"

What does this show about the devil? (John 8:44; Rev 12:9; 20:2) How did the woman get deceived? What do you learn from this part of the passage? (Matthew 4:1-11; Ephesians 6:17)

Read verse 6. Where was the man during this time? Why did he disobey God's command? (17)

What were the consequences of their sin? (7-12) Why do you think God called out to Adam, "Where are you?" (9)

Did God accept their excuses? Describe the curse to the serpent? How does verse 15 speak about Jesus? (1 John 3:8)

Describe the curse to the woman in verse 16. How was the woman's purpose in being married changed from chapter 2? Describe the curse to the man (17-19). How was the man's purpose for work changed from chapter 2?

Read verses 20-24. What is the significance of the name Adam gave his wife? How was God clothing them different from how they tried to cover themselves? What then did God do for them? Why? How does Jesus restore the purpose of men and women's lives? (Matthew 6:33, Matthew 28:18-20, John 4:15-26, John 3:16)
