You Give Them Something to Eat

Matthew 14:1-21

Key verse 14:16

Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat."

Read verses 1-12.  Why did Herod want to kill John the Baptist?  Why didn’t he kill him at first?  Why did he finally kill him?  What can we learn about the leaders of Jesus day?  Why shouldn’t we put our hope in worldly leaders?

Read verses 13-14.  Why did Jesus take his disciples to a solitary place?  How did Jesus respond when he saw the large crowds there?  How do you think Jesus was able to have compassion on the crowds?

Read verses 15-16.  When evening came, what did the disciples tell Jesus to do about the crowds?  Why did Jesus answer his disciples, “You give them something to eat”?

4.  Read verses 17-21.  What did the disciples bring to Jesus?  How did Jesus use what they brought to feed five thousand?  Was their enough food?  What can we learn about the way to give something to others?  Name at least one thing you can bring to Jesus for serving others?
