1 John 2:1-6

1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. 3 And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, 5 but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him:

6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

Walk In The Way He Walked

Walk In The Way He Walked

1 John 2:1-6

Key Verse 06: Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

V1-2

  1. Why is John writing these things to us? What should we do if we sin? What does it mean that Jesus is our righteous advocate with the Father? What does it mean that Jesus is the propitiation for our sins and the sins of the world?

V3-4

  1. How can we know that we have come to know Jesus? Why might we say that we know Jesus, but be a liar? What do you think causes this confusion?

V5

  1. How do we know that the love of God is perfected in us and that we are in him?(5) How does keeping his word reveal that his love is perfected in us?

V6

  1. What does it mean to abide in Jesus according to verse 6? What does it mean to walk the way Jesus walked? How do we walk the way Jesus walked?

Application

  1. Why might we say or think that we know Jesus, are in him, and abide in him? Why is it important to align with these verses instead of going off of what we say or think?
